Take heart and comfort in the truth that no one and nothing can stand against the power, might, majesty, and promises of the Sovereign. In His great wisdom and divine timing He is preparing for us an eternal and unfailing victory, a joyful week.  May this week's  glimpses of heaven's glory make you burst with joy, give you renewed strength and peace.

God is our strength

Don't fear, because I am with you; don't be afraid,  for I am your God.  I will strengthen you, I will surely help you; I will hold you with my righteous strong hand.  Isaiah 41:10

God is our strength, and His powerful and outstretched arms will always be there to hold you through any trial, every storm, and all the days of your journey.  Even in the end, it will be His outstretched, nail pierced and righteous hand that will reach out to welcome you home.

I just wanted to send you the same reminders that I have received this morning.  You know, in case you also needed a reminder in your trials and in your storms that God loves you and is with you always.

To my brother:

Thank you for your prayers and your example of living as a true believer. You are a blessing to me and my wife, my girls, my nieces and nephew, and so many other people. God has used you to touch and transform many lives in and throughout the country.  You have blessed your hometown and your new hometown, not to mention all those who meet you in your daily vocation. 

I pray God's anointing continue to rest and abide with you in all that you say and do.

Another little reminder of a big thing...

God has worked miracles in the past and will continue to work in and through your circumstances.

When was the last time we stopped to measure, embrace and hold on to the truth of this statement.  For just a moment I invite you to join me and recall how He created the whole world and put it in place.  I think about how He called a nation unto Himself from the womb of a barren woman and a man who was well past what we'd call prime.  Think about how He delivered a nation from famine by sending Joseph ahead to prepare the way.  Let's not forget that God raised a shepherd, Moses, from out of the water, raised him in the very house of Pharaoh, and then used this same rescued child to rescue His people Israel from bondage.  If we keep thinking of His power, miracles and track record we'd pause to reflect on how He equipped prophets and kings to lead, saved a remnant and brought them back from exile and continued showing steadfast love.  Most of all God sent His Son to save us all from sin.

In moments or seasons of doubts cling to the power of God already displayed in times past, and the promises of God for times to come:

Dear God,

Show us new roads where once we saw only obstacles.  God open new doors when others close.  God turn tragedy into triumph, hurt into happiness, and despair into desire.  

Teach us to Remember that You, O God, specialize in doing the impossible.  Help us consider that this current or even our next setback might be a setup to the victory You had planned.  Amen.

How good are your eyes?

When we look out into our broken world we often have difficulty seeing others and their needs, concerns, worth, and sacred value.  We also struggle to see and accept their intense and eternal need for Christ.  I know I struggle with this, don't you?

View finder for others?

I tend to look at others through one lens and myself through another.  My lens for others may be critical,  shortsighted, and dark.  I expect their near perfection, focus on their every action via a microscope, and jump to judgement far too easily when they falter.

Rose colored mirror for self reflection?

My lens of myself is often positive,  acknowledging my need for Christ, accommodating of my brokenness,  and overall more loving.  I expect a lot of myself, but I am much more forgiving when I fail and fall.

My guess is that the same is true for you and your view of others.  Do you have a rose colored mirror for self reflection, but microscope glasses to look out on the world?

 

What if we tried something new?  What if we see ourselves clearly and then do the same for others? 

Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Colossians 3:13 NLT

Walk worthy of the calling with which you were called . . . bearing with one another in love. —Ephesians 4:1-2

My suggestion, lets spend the rest of our lives looking towards one another tenderly, with love, forgiveness and grace.  As Dennis Fisher says in Our Daily Bread for August 7, 2014 why don't we practice the art of trying to "See others as God sees you!"

A thought for today..

Thought for Today

Do not strive to return to the place or places from which God has already set you free.  (reference Exodus 16:1-3; Deuteronomy 10:16-20; 11:1);

When God sets you free from an issue, experience, problem or person give thanks and move forward.  Don't set you sights, eyes, heart, mind or thoughts on returning back to the "old life."  Think about it, if the old life was so great, why did you beg, cry and plead for God to set you free from it (or them).

When things on the new road get tough, when the storms come and the tempter tries to test and ensnare you, you must remember this:

• God has a plan
• A better day is coming
• The Promised Land is your destination

Don't turn back, don't strive to return - keep pressing forward towards the goal.

Encouragement I need...

May you find the encouragement that you need in the words of the devotional by Don Greeley.

God is a source of indescribable power and strength and God cares for us, knows our names, and surrounds us with love.  We can be assured that we are of inestimable worth to our creator and that God buoys us up with love.

These words gave me a great sense of encouragement.  I am someone.  I have tremendous value.  God, who is strong, caring, and loving has chosen to care for me, know my name and shower me with His love.  I am encouraged to smile, to forgive, to love, and to dare to be loved by this truth.

Don Greeley closed his devotional with a prayer for our dark days, days of despair, and moments when we can see the light.  I believe it is the prayers of others, who call forth the indescribable power of God on our behalf, that help us continue on through the valleys.
